Five players in double figures as Women’s Hoops earns first conference win

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  Despite a big second half by the Madonna Crusaders, Cornerstone was able to hold on to earn their first conference win, 74-67. Five CU players hit double figures in the game, but a pair of career highs from Sterling DeGayner (11) and Broghan Gamble (10) proved to be the difference in this one. The Golden Eagles now hold a record of 2-12, 1-5 WHAC record as they get set to travel to the conference leader and No. 7 Indiana Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

What you need to know? 
  • Broghan Gamble helped the Golden Eagles get off to a fast start, hitting two threes' in the first eight minutes to take a 17-8 lead. 
  • Mya Udell would bank in a jumper at the first quarter buzzer to give CU a 21-10 lead. 
  • Sterline Degayner would get involved in the second quarter scoring seven of her team leading 11 first half points in the period to help CU hold a 14-point 46-32 lead at the half. 
  • The Golden Eagles struggles continued during the third quarter continued, being outscored 20-11 in the period to cut their lead to just five. 
  • Madonna would take their first lead at 59-58 but a three by Mya Udell would give the Golden Eagles the lead back at 61-59 with 7:43 remaining in the game. 
  • An 8-0 run in the fourth powered by the low post game of Shelby Nyboer would help CU regain the lead and they would never look back, earning a 74-67 victory.

15/10 – Mya Udell recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win. 
5 – Shelby Nyboer (19), Mya Udell (15), Taylor Richards (12), Sterling DeGayner (11), and Broghan Gamble (10) all finished with double-figures in the win. 
74 – CU recorded a season high 74 points on the game. 
56.3% - Cornerstone was lights out from the field in the second quarter, shooting 56.3% on 9-16 from the field.

Cornerstone will hit the road to take on the WHAC leading No. 7 Indiana Tech Warriors on Saturday at 1 p.m.
