GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced their post-season honors earlier today for women's basketball, and Cornerstone placed seven different student athletes throughout the varies honors. Guard
Jesse Sheridan (JR/Argyle, Texas) led the way earning a First Team All-Conference spot for the third consecutive year.
Lizzy Otten earned All-Confernece honors for the first time, being named an All-WHAC Second Team selection. CU will open WHAC Tournament play with a quarterfinal game at Aquinas tonight at 7 p.m.
In her third straight year of being First Team All-Conference, guard
Jesse Sheridan built upon a phenomenal first two seasons, averaging a team best 17.4 PPG and 1.5 SPG in 2017-18. Sheridan has recorded 1,478 career points to rank ninth all-time in Golden Eagle program history, and she is just 15 points from eighth place.
Senior
Lizzy Otten earned her first All-Conference honor since joining Cornerstone two years ago, being named All-WHAC Second Team. Otten averages 7.5 PPG to go along with a team best 3.8 APG this season. Between her career at Madonna and at Cornerstone, Otten has tallied 947 total points and 318 total assists.
Making the All-Freshman team was
Sydney Muller, the newcomer from Grand Rapids Christian High School. Muller is third on the team with 9.7 PPG and second with 3.1 APG.
Freshman Ally Richards was named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team this year. Richards has played in 11 games this season and scored 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Head coach
Katie Mattera was named the WHAC Champions of Character Coach for the second consecutive year. Mattera was selected for her commitment to the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
The final honors handed out by the conference were the All-Academic Team awards. Four Golden Eagles made this list as
Julie Brown (SR/ Holland, Mich.),
Taylor Richards (JR/Fruitport, Mich.),
Taryn Sack (SR/Grand Rapids, Mich.), and
Jesse Sheridan (JR/Argyle, Texas all finished the year with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25.
