Women's Tennis wins first ever WHAC Tournament match

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's tennis team's 2017-18 season came to a close today but not before making more school history as they posted their first ever win in the postseason, defeating Concordia 5-1 in the WHAC Quarterfinals. CU then closed their campaign with a 5-0 setback to No. 11 Northwestern Ohio. CU ends the season with an overall record of 8-6.

Doubles Highlights:  Cornerstone posted a 2-1 lead in the doubles portion against Concordia as they got a pair of 8-3 wins from the duo's of Marissa Hooker/Ana Hoezee and Nicole VerHulst/Sierra Griffith. The Golden Eagles fell on Court 1 by the same score of 8-3.

Singles Highlights: Needing only three wins to advance in the tourney for the first time in program history, Nicole VerHulst posted a quick 6-1, 6-1 win which was followed by a 6-2, 6-0 decision on Court 1 from Lauren Brendel. The five points needed to advance was finished off by Sierra Griffith, who won 6-0, 6-3.


Cornerstone then took on No. 11 UNOH and the Racers advanced with a 5-0 victory in which they won 8-0, 8-0, 8-1 in doubles and 6-0, 6-0/6-1, 6-0 in singles.

The season comes to a close for CU with their first winning record in program history at 8-6.
