Golden Eagles in the Golden State
The Golden Eagles concluded the 2018 calendar year with a pair of games in the Golden State. Cornerstone lost back-to-back games to ranked NAIA DI opponents, falling to the host No. 11 Westmont 79-30 and No. 22 The Master's 78-33. The pair of losses drops Cornerstone's overall record to 2-16 overall.
Home Sweet Home
After four weeks away from Mol Arena, Cornerstone will look to repeat what happened last time out on December 5 when they defeated Madonna 74-67 for their lone conference victory of the season.
Mya Udell had 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and two steals in that game.
New Year for Nyboer
Shelby Nyboer put up ten points in each game in California, extending her double-digit point streak to six games. The sophomore from Jenison has put up double digits in 14 of 18 games, including seven of eight conference games, and is averaging 14.3 points per game. With 136 rebounds through 18 games, Nyboer has already eclipsed her 121 total boards from the 2017-18 campaign.
Short from Distance
The Golden Eagles went 0-for-7 from beyond the arc against Westmont. The last game Cornerstone did not hit a three pointer was when they went 0-for-15 in a 54-51 victory against Aquinas on January 14, 2015.
Turn of the Calendar
The Golden Eagles have won 11 of 14 calendar openers since 2005. Their last loss came during the 2013-14 season when they fell 66-45 at Concordia on January 4, 2014.
History vs. Concordia
Cornerstone has won nine of the last ten meetings with Concordia, dating back to 2014. The Cardinals swept the Golden Eagles in 2011-12 and 2012-13, being ranked in the NAIA Top 25 in all four of those match ups.
Scouting Concordia
Concordia turned the calendar with a 2-14 overall, 1-7 WHAC record. Katie Snow leads the team with 14.7 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Cardinals lone conference victory came on December 15 when they defeated Rochester by a score of 62-53. Four of the seven WHAC losses were decided by seven points or less.
