Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles faced a talented Lawrence Tech squad this past Saturday in their only game of the week. Cornerstone hung with the Blue Devils early but were unable to hang down the stretch, falling 84-52. Rebekah Crosby continued her strong play this season putting up 15 points and grabbing 11 boards. With that double-double, Crosby now has three on the season and is leading the Golden Eagles in both scoring and rebounding.
Welcome Marissa!
Cornerstone welcomed freshman Marissa Koetsier to the varsity roster this past weekend. Marissa is a 5-10 guard from Hudsonville, Michigan and is a graduate of Unity Christian High School. Koetsier is now the third member of this Golden Eagle squad to call Hudsonville her hometown, alongside Skylar Scholten and Katrina Goebel. She will be wearing the number 2 for the remainder of the season and already made her first appearance against Lawrence Tech.
Scouting Siena Heights
The Saints of Siena Heights mark the first of two tough opponents Cornerstone will face this week. Siena Heights is 4-0 on the season and are led by WHAC Player of the Week, Peyton Banks. Banks is averaging 21.5 points per game this season and is also grabbing 7.3 rebounds a contest. The Saints also have an ace up their sleeve in guard Kelsey Wyman, who is averaging 13.3 points off the bench. Wyman is shooting 44.4% from three-point land this season, while also dishing out an average of 3.3 assists. The Golden Eagles will have to look to slow down the Siena Heights offense as a whole, which is averaging 79.6 points per game and holding opponents to just 50.
Scouting #4 Indiana Tech
Perhaps Cornerstone's strongest opponent all season, the #4 Indiana Tech Warriors sit at 4-1 on the season. Coming off a 74-51 victory over Lourdes in their WHAC opener, Indiana Tech will be looking to build up momentum heading into Saturday's contest. The Warriors are led offensively by their dynamic backcourt of Alexis Hill and DeAnn Kauffman. Both guards are averaging at least 18 points a contest, and Hill is averaging a double-double hauling down 12.3 rebounds a game. Every member of the IT starting lineup averages at least 7 points a game and the team as a whole averages 79.5 points per game, while holding their opposition to 59.5. If Cornerstone hopes to pull off the upset, they will have to find a way to neutralize the Warriors.
