Last Week Recap

The Golden Eagles entered December looking to flip the script after an 0-8 November. Cornerstone found themselves in two tight games to start the month but were unable to pull out victories in both contests.

The Racers of Northwestern Ohio were CU's first matchup of the week, coming to town on December 4th. Entering the fourth quarter down by four, Cornerstone were unable to come all the way back as UNOH held on for a 71-60 victory. The Racers were led by Tori Lennartz, who put up 29 points on the night. Broghan Gamble and Shelby Nyboer both hit double figures on the night for CU while Sterling DeGayner tallied a career-high, nine assists.

Looking to bounce back, Cornerstone welcomed UM-Dearborn to Mol Arena for a Saturday afternoon showdown. The Golden Eagles jumped all over Dearborn in the first half, putting up 23 points in the first quarter and taking an 11-point lead into the locker room. The Wolverines came clawing back in the second half, however. Thanks to 47 second half points, UM-Dearborn were able to pull away late, winning 75-67. In the losing effort, Cornerstone had four players in double figures on the night. Shelby Nyboer led the way with 18.

Scouting Madonna University

The Madonna Crusaders come into this matchup in pursuit of their first WHAC victory. Sitting at 2-9, the Crusaders are the only other team in the WHAC besides Cornerstone without a conference win. Led by former WHAC player of the week Hannah Reinhold, who is averaging 17.8 points a contest, Madonna are looking to snap out of a six-game losing skid.

The Crusaders have four players averaging at least ten points a game. On paper, they look to be a team focused on scoring in the paint. Madonna has hit only 37 three pointers this season, with all of their made threes only coming from three players. Naomi Davis is the sharpest shooter between the three Crusaders, averaging a 35.8% clip from behind the long line.

Defensively, Madonna is strong inside. Their interior defense is led by the 6-2 Paige Boden. The junior from Fowlerville, Michigan is averaging a whopping 3.3 blocks per game and is coming off an absolute block party in a 79-71 loss to UNOH, in which she tallied 8 blocks.  The Golden Eagle frontcourt will have to be quick and aware down low, while the CU backcourt will have to find a way to slow down Reinhold in order to return home with a victory.
