Hernandez slugs Softball to split in Florida finale

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Jocelyn Hernandez jacked two big home runs over Calumet College of St. Joseph to help the Golden Eagles to a split of the final day Florida action on Saturday. Cornerstone hung on to defeat Calumet St. Joseph 12-10 before getting mercied by NAIA No. 6 Marian by a score of 12-1. The Golden Eagles take a 9-5 overall record back up north where they will return to action on March 21 with a rematch at Trinity International in a non-conference doubleheader.

Game 1: Cornerstone 12 – Calumet College of St. Joseph 10
  • Jocelyn Hernandez broke a 2-2 tie in the 4th inning with a two-run home run over the fence in left field.
  • After Cornerstone took a 6-2 lead, the Crimson Wave cut the deficit to 6-5 with a three-run 4th inning.
  • In the 5th inning, an RBI single down the left field line by Lexi Lieske brought Jocelyn Hernandez up to the plate, who jacked her second home run of the game and third of the season. The three-run shot gave the Golden Eagles a 10-5 lead after five innings.
  • A grand slam highlighted a five-run 6th inning for Calumet, who tied the game at 10-10 heading into the final inning.
  • McKena Razenberg hit a clutch two-out RBI single to left field to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning. Cierra Langejans followed by knocking in an insurance run with a deep fly ball to left field that found grass after an error, making it 12-10.
