GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone looks to bounce back from two tough WHAC losses last week with a pair of games in the coming days. CU will first make the short trip down US-131 to face Grace Christian University this Wednesday at 7 pm. The Golden Eagles defeated the Tigers 74-56 to start the season and will be hoping for a repeat performance. Cornerstone will then welcome #25 Lawrence Tech this Saturday, with tip-off set for 1 pm. The Blue Devils have already defeated CU this season by a score of 84-52 and Cornerstone will be looking to pull off the upset to avoid falling to LTU again. Last Week Recap
Cornerstone faced off with two strong WHAC opponents this past week, looking to pull off a pair of upsets. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles were unable to play spoiler falling to both Concordia and Aquinas by double-digit margins. With the losses CU falls to 1-9 in the WHAC and 2-17 on the year.
The Golden Eagles couldn't get their offense going on the road against Concordia, falling 83-50.
Shelby Nyboer was the only Golden Eagle in double figures, with 10 points.
Originally scheduled for January 11th, Cornerstone's matchup with Aquinas was moved to January 13th due to inclement weather. CU came out of the gates strong, confusing Aquinas with a zone defense that helped them to a 24-23 lead at the half. Aquinas came out prepared in the second half, roaring back thanks to a strong third quarter and an incredible rebounding effort to win 64-48. Sophomore forward
Rebekah Crosby tallied a career-high 5 blocks in the losing effort, while
Shelby Nyboer led CU offensively with 14 points.
Scouting Grace Christian University
The Tigers of Grace Christian are 9-13 on the year but have a perfect 4-0 record in the NCCAA conference.
Fresh off of a trip to Florida which saw the Tigers win three straight, Grace returns home to square off with Cornerstone for the second time this season. CU won the previous meeting 74-56.
Sophomore center Ashley Hoek has been a force for the Tigers this season with 69 blocked shots. During their Florida trip, Hoek came within a few blocks of recording triple-doubles in each contest.
Scouting #25 Lawrence Tech University
Cornerstone squares with Lawrence Tech for the second time this season, after dropping the first contest 84-52. The Blue Devils find themselves #25 in the country thanks to a solid offense and strong rebounding presence.
Sophomore point guard Kendall Fisher leads the team with 15.8 points per game. Fisher looks to create her own shot often, attempting 15.3 shots a contest. The Blue Devils are efficient from the line, shooting 75.5% from the charity stripe.
