As October has gotten underway so has the Cornerstone women's soccer team as they opened the season at Lourdes last week with a 1-0 victory. CU who is now 20% of the way through their fall season will play their first countable home game this Saturday vs. Concordia at 7 p.m. 

FIRST GAME RECAP

Cornerstone saw a pair of heroes in their first game as freshman Sierah Adams recorded a beautiful goal in the 85th minute on her second shot of the game to break scoreless tie at Lourdes. Adams was able to put the ball over the keeper for the lone goal of the game, giving her a game winner for her first collegiate goal. Senior defender Madissen Kruit later preserved the game for the Golden Eagles with a game saving clearance at the goal line with just seconds remaining to help CU move to 1-0-0 on the year and in WHAC play. Kruit was also named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the Golden Eagles season opening victory. 

DOUBLE DIGIT SHUTOUTS

Senior goalkeeper Mikayla Johnson recorded her 10th shutout of her career last time out making her just the sixth Golden Eagle in program history to record double digit shutouts in her career. Johnson is also now just one win away from moving to third all-time in program history as she has 26 since beginning her career in 2017. In the season opener against Lourdes, Johnson made six saves and played the full 90 minutes of action. In the past two seasons, Johnson has recorded a save percentage above 80% and sits at 80.1 for her career. 

HISTORY VS. CONCORDIA 

Cornerstone holds a 29-6-3 all-time record against the Cardinals and a 24-5-3 record since 2000. Despite the dominant success all-time against Concordia, five of the six total losses have come the last five times the teams have met over the last four seasons. CUAA has had the Golden Eagles number of late, shutting them out in four of those five losses.
