Razenberg powers Softball to victory in season opener

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McKena Razenberg celebrated her 22nd birthday by going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, helping Cornerstone defeat Briar Cliff 7-2 in the season opener. The Golden Eagles will look to build off their hot start with a rematch with the Chargers tomorrow before taking on Florida National University in the nightcap of Saturday's action. 

Game Flow
  • Allisen Martz and McKena Razenberg got Cornerstone on the board with back-to-back RBI singles in the 3rd inning.
  • The Chargers got on the board to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 4th inning.
  • After four innings of solid work from Ashley Loera, Kaitlin Johnson came in to pitch in relief in the 5th inning. Johnson escaped a bases loaded, nobody out jam by surrendering only one run. 
  • Sierra Sanchez broke a 2-2 tie by drilling a two RBI double to left center, giving the Golden Eagles a 4-2 advantage after five innings. 
  • Razenberg recorded her third and fourth RBI of the game in the 6th inning. with a two-RBI double to left field.
  • Lexi Lieske capped off the offense by driving Razenberg in with a triple to deep right field, giving CU a 7-2 lead. 
  • Sierra Sanchez sealed the game with a sliding catch in left field for the final out.

  • McKena Razenberg finished 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Four hits marks a career high. 
  • Molly Poole and Allisen Martz both recorded their first collegiate hits. Martz also tallied her first RBI. 
  • Cornerstone had four extra-base hits, while Briar Cliff only had one.
