GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone and Siena Heights partnered for a great event in the Friendship Sports International B.O.G.O Night, as the two sides sold gear that provided items needed to local homeless shelters in West Michigan. CU did not get the result they wanted though, as Marissa Young for the Saints scored two early first half goals to down the Golden Eagles 2-0. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 4-7-1 on the year and 2-6-0 in WHAC play as they will travel to Cleary on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match.
What you need to know?
- Siena Heights did not take long to find the scoreboard, as Marissa Young found the net in the fourth minute after beating the defense and keeper Hope Steenwyk to take a 1-0 lead.
- Cornerstone got their first shot roughly 17 minutes into the game, as Kylie Adams put one on net that was saved.
- Marissa Young found the net again for SHU in the 27th minute as she made a great cut to beat the keeper and find a wide-open net.
- Cornerstone was unable to find the net in the first half, trailing 2-0 at the half.
- Cornerstone came out in the second half with a new-found energy as Julie Gouilliart and Laura Helder each recorded great shots that were saved by SHU.
- After the first five minutes of the second half, Maddie Castle started to take some long shots for the Saints on the shorter substitute keeper Angelina VanderBeek but all three shots she took went high.
- Kara Bishop made another outstanding save on a shot from Julie Gouilliart to keep it 2-0 with a half hour to play.
- Cornerstone continued to dominate possession for the final half hour and get multiple chances, but the Saints defense refused to break as the Golden Eagles fell 2-0 in the Friendship Sports International BOGO Night match.
