Last Week Recap

The Golden Eagles opened WHAC play last week with two tough opponents at home as they fell to (14) Indiana Tech to begin the week, 84-41 and followed that with a tough overtime loss vs. Aquinas, 68-57 to drop to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in WHAC play. CU struggled to shoot the ball, shooting under 40% in both games this past week. Mackenzie Stien led CU with 19 points vs. Aquinas while Emma Costen was the leading scorer vs. Indiana Tech with nine.

Shooting over 40%

Cornerstone this season has seen the 40% mark as the threshold for wins and losses as the team is 0-5 when shooting below 40% and 1-0 when shooting above. On the defensive end, the same is true as when Cornerstone holds their opponent to under 40% they are 1-0, and in all five games the opponent has shot above 40% they are 0-5.

Road Trip

Cornerstone has played just one game on the road this year and they will now hit the road for three straight, and 12 of their next 14 games. The rebuilding CU team has seen more success on the road than at home under Head Coach Jessica Yonkers, with eight of the 13 wins coming in road games.

Yonkers vs. This Week's Opponents

Cornerstone is 1-4 against Lawrence Tech and 0-5 against Siena Heights under Head Coach Jessica Yonkers. Last season, Cornerstone defeated LTU 80-61 before falling at their place for a season split.

Scouting Lawrence Tech

The young Blue Devils come into 2021-22 with a 2-5 record, 1-0 in WHAC play as they defeated Concordia 67-53 on November 10. LTU has struggled offensively, but has suffocated opponents defensively holding their last four opponents to 60 points or less. Junior guard, Kylee Batey recently set a program record for single game rebounds with 21 in the win against Concordia, as the team averages 38.3 rebounds per game. Offensively, the lone senior Kendall Fisher has done all the work scoring 20.7 PPG at a 38.3% clip. Fisher is also second on the team in rebounds per game and first in assists per game this season.

Scouting Siena Heights

The Saints have been dominant in the early season with a 5-0, 2-0 WHAC record. Last season, Siena Heights finished third in the WHAC with a 13-6, 9-4 record. SHU is a veteran team led by senior Peyton Banks from Wadsworth, Ohio. Banks has already earned one WHAC Player of the Week this year as she leads the team with 23.2 PPG and 10.8 RPG. Siena Heights has been another team that is outstanding on the defensive end, outscoring their opponents by 20 this season while holding teams to 52.4 PPG.
