GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After concluding their season with a 7-14 overall, 4-9 WHAC record, the Cornerstone women's basketball program will hit the road on Thursday to take on Indiana Tech in the WHAC quarterfinal. The Golden Eagles earned the seventh seed in the tournament while the Warriors, who are ranked 9th in the nation, slipped to the second seed in the tournament after falling to Rochester last week. In her third season at the helm, Head Coach
Jessica Yonkers will experience her first postseason game as a collegiate coach. The last postseason appearance for the program came in the 2017-18 season, when the team recorded three straight upsets to win the tournament as the six seed, defeating Indiana Tech in the championship game.
Cornerstone Notes
Thursday's game will be the 11th game in a busy month of February for the Golden Eagles. The team has a respectable 4-6 record over that stretch, including back-to-back-to-back wins against UNOH, Madonna, and Lourdes.
Maddison Fulks has been a second half spark in each of the last two games for CU, as she scored 17 in the second half against Lawrence Tech and 16 in the second half against Rochester. Cornerstone hit a season high 25 free throws in Tuesday's loss to Rochester. The Golden Eagles have a 5-8 record on the road this season.
Scouting Indiana Tech
The Warriors average 71.9 points per game while holding their opposition to just 54.6 per game. In their lone match against Cornerstone this year, Indiana Tech came away with a commanding 101-62 victory. Indiana Tech has defeated Cornerstone five straight times dating back to the 2018-19 season, with each game decided by a margin of at least 24 points. The Warriors won both the 2019 and 2020 WHAC tournaments. Three different players are averaging double figures for Indiana Tech, with Erika Foy at 14.7, Kyra Whitaker at 14.3, and Alexis Hill at 11.5. The Warriors are extremely dominant on their home court, as they have a 49-3 record over the last three years at the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne.
