Season comes to an end for Women’s Basketball with loss at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. –  The Golden Eagles started strong, getting on top 10-4, but the number 13 Indiana Tech Warriors were too much to handle in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal as CU fell 73-37 ending their season. Cornerstone ends the season much improved from the previous two seasons going 7-15 overall. CU will now approach the offseason and begin preparations for the 2021-22 season.
 
Game Flow:
  • The Golden Eagle defense came out to play early, holding the high-powered Indiana Tech offense scoreless for the first three minutes of the game. 
  • A pair of Shelby Nyboer jumpers gave Cornerstone the 10-4 lead seven minutes into the first quarter.
  • Indiana Tech ended the first quarter on a 9-2 run capped off by an Eileen Salisbury three to take the 13-12 lead.
  • The Warriors locked down on defense in the second quarter as a Katrina Goebel free throw was the only CU point for the first 7:30 of the period. Indiana Tech went on a 12-1 run to lead 25-13. 
  • Indiana Tech outscored Cornerstone 17-3 in the second quarter as the Golden Eagles hit one field goal to trail 30-15 at the break. 
  • The IIT defense was suffocating to start the second half as well as an Allyson Richards jumper was the first bucket with 6:45 remaining in the third. 
  • Shelby Nyboer hit back-to-back layups late in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 52-23. 
  • At the end of the third quarter, Cornerstone trailed 54-23. 
  • In the fourth quarter, the Warriors outscored the Golden Eagles 12-4 in the first five minutes to go up by 40, 67-27. 
  • Brooke Modderman hit the team's first three of the game with 4:31 to play. 
  • CU went on an 8-0 run in the final minutes, but it was too little too late as Cornerstone's season came to an end with a 73-37 loss at number 13 Indiana Tech. 
 
 
By the numbers:
10/6 – Shelby Nyboer was the only CU player in double-figures on the day, scoring 10 points along with six rebounds. 
3 – Kennedy Helderop tallied three steals in the loss. 
2-19 – Cornerstone was ice cold from the three-point line, hitting just two behind the arc on 19 attempts. 
13-0 – Indiana Tech recorded 13 fast break points to the Golden Eagles zero. 
21 – CU saw multiple players in foul trouble on the game committing 21 on the game. 
 
What's next? 
Cornerstone's season has come to an end and they will enter the offseason to prepare for 2021-22.
