BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – For the first time since September, the Men's Tennis team returned to action on Saturday to compete against Indiana University-East. The Golden Eagles were able to prevail in two of the three doubles contests, but the Red Wolves were able to take four of the six singles to win the match 4-3, handing Cornerstone their first loss of the season. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to return to play on Friday at Hope College in Holland.
Doubles Results
The first doubles pairing of
Mateo Jimenez and
Aliaksei Kanstantsinau won their battle 6-2. The Red Wolves were able to take the second flight, defeating
John Cocoma and
Jose Oliva 6-4.
Tanner Howard and
Matthew Hall prevailed in the third contest by a score of 6-2.
Singles Results
Aliaksei Kanstantsinau put up an extensive fight in the first singles matchup. The senior prevailed in the first frame after winning the tiebreaker. His #1 singles opponent forced a third set with a 6-3 decision in the middle frame. The third set ended in favor of the Red Wolves by a score of 12-10.
John Cocoma's battle at #2 singles also went to three sets, where Cocoma came out on top 10-8.
Mateo Jimenez came away with the win at #3 singles in two sets, 7-5 and 6-1. Cornerstone lost the 4th, 5th and 6th singles flights, all in two sets.
What's Next?
Cornerstone (2-1) will return to play on Friday evening with a match against Hope College.
