Box Score 2 WATERTOWN, Wisc. – The Men's Volleyball team traveled to Wisconsin on Saturday for two matches against Maranatha Baptist. The Golden Eagles dropped a very competitive first match 3-1 before turning the tables and winning the second match 3-1. The split brings Cornerstone's record to 2-16 as the team returns to WHAC action on Tuesday when they host Aquinas.
Game 1 Recap (20-25, 29-27, 23-25, 18-25)
- A service ace from Silvio Rodriguez gave Cornerstone a 10-6 advantage in the first set.
- Neither team led by more than four points all the way up until it was 20-20. Maranatha finished out the set by winning the next five points, three of which came by way of CU attack errors.
- After dropping the first two points of set two, the Golden Eagles went on a 5-0 spurt to make it 5-2.
- The teams were neck and neck throughout all of set two. A kill from Logan Chagdes gave CU a set-point opportunity at 25-24.
- The Sabercats had two set point opportunities of their own at 26-25 and 27-26, but the Golden Eagles hung on for both of those points before winning the set 29-27.
- After trailing 12-8 in a pivotal third set, Cornerstone scored five straight points to grab a 13-12 lead.
- Neither team led by more than a point for the rest of the set until Maranatha broke a 23-23 tie with two straight points to win 25-23.
- The Sabercats established a 6-1 lead early in the fourth set. Maranatha led for the remainder of the set on their way to a 25-18 victory to seal the match 3-1.
Game 2 Recap (25-22, 25-14, 20-25, 25-17)
- After trailing 11-10, Cornerstone rattled off four straight points to take a 14-11 lead and held onto that lead and won 25-22 in the first set.
- Cade Meza had back-to-back service aces early in the first set to give CU a 4-1 advantage.
- Later in the second set, a pair of service aces from Jacob Brinks capped off a 7-0 scoring run to put CU on top 21-12.
- Mitchell Nichols put the set away at 25-14 with back-to-back kills.
- Maranatha held control for most of the third set and held a commanding 17-8 lead. Cornerstone cut that back to as little as three at 22-19 but the Sabercats closed the set on top 25-20.
- The teams traded points early as the fourth set started at 7-7. Cornerstone claimed the next five points to lead 12-7.
- The Golden Eagles continued to build their lead before closing out the set at 25-17 and the match 3-1.

The split brings Cornerstone's record to 2-16 as the team returns to WHAC action on Tuesday when they host Aquinas.
