Men’s Volleyball battles but falls to Goshen on Senior Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Golden Eagles came out strong on senior day, winning set one over receiving votes Goshen but they would ultimately fall in four, 27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 8-25. With the loss, Cornerstone's inaugural season comes to an end with a 2-21, 0-12 WHAC record. Game Recap – Goshen – 3 Cornerstone – 1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 8-25)
  • Cornerstone came out with some early fire on senior day, taking a 3-1 edge with kills from David Kerkstra and Max Hernandez.
  • After trading points throughout the set, Cornerstone continued to battle taking a 20-18 edge on a Max Hernandez kill that forced the Maple Leafs into a timeout. 
  • After the timeout, Goshen was able to tie things up as Cornerstone used their first timeout with the set tied at 23. 
  • Cornerstone refused to let the set slip though winning two straight points on a Jacob Brinks block and Goshen attack error, 27-25. 
  • Once again, the Golden Eagles got off to a good start in set two as Silvio Rodriguez recorded a pair of aces in the early 3-1 advantage. 
  • Set two sat tied at 13 before Goshen scored three consecutive points to pull away and force CU into a timeout. 
  • Goshen would not relinquish the set two lead, as Alexander Rabadzhie recorded a kill to give GC the 25-19 victory. 
  • Cornerstone would continue the strong starts to sets, as Silvio Rodriguez recorded a kill to give the Golden Eagles a 7-5 set three edge. 
  • Goshen responded with a 4-0 run to take an 11-9 advantage with a couple CU errors and a Michael Wahl service ace. 
  • A Max Hernandez kill cut the deficit to one at 16-15. 
  • Cade Meza recorded a kill that tied the set back up at 21. 
  • Goshen held on with a block from Michael Wahl and Ian Fox to win set three 25-23. 
  • For the first time the Maple Leafs outplayed CU early in set four taking a 6-1 advantage. 
  • Cornerstone took a timeout after trailing 10-2. 
  • Goshen overpowered Cornerstone in set four, winning 25-8 with a kill from Joel Plank. 
 
By the Numbers 
10 – David Kerkstra led the team with a career high 10 kills. 
.500 – Cornerstone hit a program best .500 in the set one win with 17 kills and just one error. 
33 – Max Hernandez recorded 33 assists in the match. 
27 – The senior class recorded 27 kills in today's game.
