LANCASTER, Pa. – The Golden Eagles began their weekend trip on Friday with two games against NCAA DIII Lancaster Bible College, where head coach
Alex Bahn played from 2011-2014. The Golden Eagles were swept in both sets to bring their record to 0-13 overall. Cornerstone will return to action on Saturday in Mount Vernon, Ohio, in search of the program's first victory.
Game 1: Cornerstone 0 – Lancaster 3 (14-25, 11-25, 23-25)
The Chargers established a 9-2 lead in the early goings of the first set.
Lancaster ended the first set with an impressive .556 hitting percentage with 13 kills on 18 total attacks
Cornerstone was able to get five points in the first set by way of kills, while the other nine came from errors from LBC.
David Kerkstra had back-to-back kills to help Cornerstone to a 4-1 lead in the second frame.
After a flurry of points from the Chargers,
Jacob Brinks knotted the score at 7-7 with a kill
Cade Meza had back-to-back kills to cut Lancaster's lead to 23-17 but the Chargers closed out the set with a 25-17 decision.
In set three, the Chargers grew their lead to 23-15, just two points away from sealing the sweep. Cornerstone earned the next five points to make it interesting, but LBC closed it out 25-21 to take the first match of the day.
Game 2: Cornerstone 0 – Lancaster 3 (14-25, 11-25, 23-25)
The Golden Eagles called timeout trailing 11-4 in the first set. From there, the Chargers grew their lead to as many as 13 before sealing a 25-14 victory.
Jacob Brinks and
Cade Meza each tallied a pair of kills in the early goings of set number two.
Lancaster used an 11-0 run to claim a 25-11 win in the second set.
In the third set,
Joshua Richline and
David Rodriguez had back-to-back kills to make it 10-6 in favor of LBC.
A kill by
Mitchell Nichols brought the deficit to just one, 19-18. The Golden Eagles chased the Chargers for the remainder of the game before falling just short, 25-23.
By the Numbers
12 – The Golden Eagles had 12 kills in the third set of match two.
11 – Eleven total kills for
Cade Meza with five in match one and six in match two.
10 – Cornerstone committed a season-low ten errors in the second match.

Jacob Brinks and

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday with matches against Mount Vernon Nazarene and Carlow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
