GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone welcomed the Cleary Cougars to the CU Softball field on Saturday afternoon. After a 5-1 loss in game one, Cornerstone scored two runs late in game two to secure a 2-0 shutout victory for their ninth split of the season. Cornerstone's record sits at 15-13, 8-10 WHAC with just two doubleheaders to go in the regular season, only one of which being a WHAC matchup. The Golden Eagles will host Aquinas in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday before wrapping up the regular season at Siena Heights on Saturday.
Senior Day
Prior to the games, seven seniors were honored:
Alessa Baldwin-Buchner,
Kailin Hurrle,
Alicia Ontiveros,
Aliyah Lemmer,
Courtney Ducharme,
Gaby Fundora, and
Sierra Sanchez. In between games, the team also honored four seniors from last year's team that were unable to have their senior day last year.

Game One
- The Cougars snagged a 1-0 lead with a run in the opening frame.
- Sydney Carr led off the second inning with a double off the fence in center field, but was ultimately unable to score.
- Cleary slowly built their lead by scoring a run in the third inning and another in the fifth inning to make it 3-0.
- McKenzie Butgereit had a two-out double in the sixth inning and eventually came home thanks to an error to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Cougars extended their lead thanks to a couple insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, making it 5-1, which proved to be the final.
Game Two
- Cleary placed two runners on base in the first inning, but Kaitlin Johnsonwas able to get out of the inning unharmed
- The scoreboard was all zeroes until the fifth inning when CU was able to get on the board with an RBI hit from Sierra Sanchez.
- McKenzie Butgereit extended the lead to 2-0 with an insurance run by sending one over the fence in left field.
- The Cougars put a runner on base and brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh inning, but Kaitlin Johnson was able to put the game away for her sixth complete game of the season.
- Johnson surrendered only four hits and three strikeouts in her seven inning outing.

Cornerstone will host Aquinas in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. They will then conclude the regular season with a road doubleheader at Siena Heights on Saturday.
