ADRIAN, Mich. – The Softball team concluded the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Siena Heights. The Golden Eagles earned a comfortable 11-3 win in the first game before coming up just short 7-6 in extra innings in game two. Cornerstone ends the regular season with a 17-15 overall, 9-11 WHAC record. They now await the formal announcement pertaining to the 2021 WHAC tournament, which is scheduled to take place next week in Sylvania, Ohio.
Game one
- Cornerstone came out of the gate with six runs in the first inning, all of which were unearned. The first two were scored thanks to errors, then Bailey Anson and Kailin Hurrle each had a two-RBI double.
- Siena Heights got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning to make it 6-1.
- Bailey Anson tallied her third RBI of the game with an RBI single in the second inning to push CU's lead back to six at 7-1.
- The Saints put up another run in the third inning to make it 7-2.
- Each side scored a run in the fifth inning to push the score to 8-3.
- Two runs came home off the bat of Aliyah Lemmer in the sixth inning to extend Cornerstone's lead to 10-3 before McKenzie Butgereit capped off the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh.
- Mikayla Meade went the distance in the circle, surrendering ten hits but only two earned runs in the seven innings.
Game two
- Alessa Baldwin-Buchner gave CU a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI double.
- Siena Heights snagged their first lead of the day by hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to claim a 2-1 lead.=
- The Saints tacked on another in the third inning to make it 3-1.
- After a Kaitlin Johnson double in the sixth inning, Sydney Carr followed with a double of her own to drive in CU's second run of the game, making it 3-2.
- Siena Heights posted three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, leaving CU one last chance to overcome a four-run deficit.
- With the bases loaded, McKenzie Butgereit and Kaitlin Johnson had back-to-back singles to make it 6-5.
- Sydney Carr drove in the game tying run in the seventh inning with an RBI groundout.
- Siena Heights broke the 6-6 tie with a walkoff single in the ninth inning.
