GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has released their 2020-21 softball honors and CU sees
Sierra Sanchez and
Allisen Martz earn Second Team All-WHAC, while
Aliyah Lemmer earned WHAC All-Defensive Team. CU also saw 12 players earn WHAC All-Academic in the much improved 2021 campaign under first year Head Coach
Kelsey Kooistra. After losses in the opening round of the WHAC Tournament yesterday, Cornerstone's season has come to an end as they finish the year 17-17 overall.
All-WHAC Second Team
For the first time in each of their career's,
Sierra Sanchez and
Allisen Martz earned WHAC All-Second Team Honors. Sanchez hit .345 in 2021 and ended her career with 100 total hits for CU. She led the team with 40 hits this year and was second on the team with 24 RBI. Martz took over at shortsop for CU this season and hit .300 as the everyday starter. She scored 14 runs for CU and was also outstanding defensively with a.958 fielding percentage and 90 total assists.
WHAC All-Defensive Team
Senior third baseman,
Aliyah Lemmer was named to the WHAC All-Defensive Team for CU after starting and starting all 34 games for CU at the position. Lemmer recorded 61 assists and 30 putouts while recording a .929 fielding percentage for Cornerstone.
WHAC Champion of Character
Senior
Aliyah Lemmer was also named the WHAC Champions of Character representative for CU after being nominated by Head Coach
Kelsey Kooistra. The senior captain was chosen for her representation of the NAIA Core Character Traits of respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, integrity, and servant leadership.
WHAC All-Academic
12 Golden Eagles earned WHAC All-Academic Honors for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher with a junior or above academic class standing. The CU winners are:
