GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – First year head coach
Chris Williamson is excited to add two assistants to the new program at Cornerstone as Elijah Dahl and Kyle Nixon have begun work this summer to help start the program. Both assistants are recent graduates of strong wrestling programs, as Dahl comes from Northwestern College in Iowa, and Nixon comes from just down the road at Davenport University.
Elijah Dahl
Dahl is a 2018 graduate of Northwestern College where he graduated with a degree in Christian Education. He was a 149lb wrestler at Northwestern under his father Rich Dahl who is the longtime Head Coach at Northwestern. As a starter all four years, Dahl was a two-year Team Captain and winner of the NAIA Champions of Character award in 2016 and the Dunlop Sportsmanship Award in 2018.
After graduation in 2018, Dahl served as a volunteer assistant under his father at Northwestern College. He also began putting his degree in action as a Worship Associate at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, Iowa.
Dahl recently accepted a new position in the Grand Rapids area as the Director of Worship at Remembrance Church. Wanting to continue his coaching career as well, Dahl connected with Williamson and was hired early this summer as an assistant here at Cornerstone.
In his free time, Dahl loves fixing and riding motorcycles as well as rock climbing. He also loves the outdoors and has a dream to take a van trip around New Zeeland some day.
Kyle Nixon
Nixon is originally from Luther, Michigan but has been in the Grand Rapids area over the last few years to earn his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Accounting from Davenport University where he also wrestled. As a wrestler, Nixon had a great career as a three-time Team Captain for the Panthers and a two-time team MVP.
Nixon is now beginning his career in accounting while also wanting to continue his passion for wrestling as a first-time coach. Nixon stated, "I owe much of my success that I have achieved in life to the sport of wrestling. I want to show athletes that a strong work ethic & faith in Jesus Christ can overcome any and all obstacles, no matter how large. I think with those two things at the foundation of the Cornerstone program, we will see success on and off the mat."
Some of Nixon's favorite hobbies include golf and weightlifting, as well as traveling and spending time with his wife Brooke.
