Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles got their first two games of the season under their belt playing at Bethel and vs. Spring Arbor last week. In both games, CU got behind early, then came back, but was unable to complete the comeback falling 67-61 at Bethel and 80-70 vs. Spring Arbor. CU will play Taylor at home this Tuesday and then travel to Governor's State on Saturday looking for their first win.

Jaxi Long Strong Start
Freshman Jaxi Long came off the bench and had an outstanding start to the year, averaging a team second best 10 points per game to go along with a team leading seven assists. Long has shot 38.1% from the field and 28.6% from deep to score the second most points on the team.

Foul Trouble
One fo the biggest struggles in the first two contests for CU is foul trouble. Cornerstone recorded 20+ fouls in each of the first two games with 49 total. The fouls led to 32 free throw attemps for Spring Arbor on Saturday and 27 makes, allowing them to come back in the final four minutes and down the Golden Eagles 80-70.

History vs. Taylor
Taylor historically has been a solid team in the NAIA and Cornerstone has struggled with them, losing the last seven games and going 1-8 all-time. The two teams have played each of the last three seasons and Cornerstone has lost by nine twice and by 48 in the 2020-21 season.

First Ever vs. Governor's State
Cornerstone will play Governor's State for the first time in program history. The Golden Eagle men played the Jaguars for the first time a season ago, and now the women will travel to University Park for Cornerstone's first ever visit to GSU in any sport.

Scouting Taylor
Head Coach Jody Martinez is in his sixth year with the Trojans and has led Taylor to a strong 1-0 start after an 81-51 win at Madonna. Junior forward Taylor Westgate dominated the first game of the year with a 30-point performance. Westgate led the team in PPG a season ago with 13.7 and is off to a great start in 2022-23. Taylor finished 2021-22 just above .500 at 15-3, 8-6 in the Crossroads League as they look to get back to their winning ways.

Scouting Governor's State
The Jaguars are in year eight of having a women's basketball program and they have recorded just one winning season in that time. A year ago, GSU went 10-19 overall and 9-13 in CCAC play. The Jaguars have a busy week with a trip to Aquinas on Monday night and Bethel on Tuesday night before hosting Cornerstone on Saturday. GSU is a veteran team in 2022-23 with seven seniors on the roster.
