Women’s Soccer season ends with 3-0 loss in WHAC Quarterfinal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – Despite some outstanding effort on the defensive end, an early goal for the WHAC Regular Season Champion Aquinas Saints ended the Golden Eagles 2022 season in a 3-0 Tournament Quarterfinal loss. CU could not find a way to create offense against the top seeded Saints as they fell to 5-10-3 to end the year. Cornerstone has now concluded the 2022 season and will begin preparations for the 2023 year as they hit the offseason.

What you need to know?
  • Aquinas did what led them to a third straight WHAC Regular Season Title, scoring early yet again with a goal in the third minute off the foot of Macy Hollingsworth to go up 1-0. AQ passed through the Cornerstone defense to find the upper 90 of the net and go on top.
  • Aquinas maintained almost all the possession in the first half, outshooting Cornerstone 12-1.
  • The CU defense stiffened for the remainder of the half though, powered by Hailey Stowe winning nearly every ball out of the air and Hope Steenwyk making a few great saves.
  • The Saints led CU 1-0 at the half.
  • Aquinas found an insurance goal on a rebound from a shot off the crossbar by Hannah Crum. Sydney Shenk put the rebound away to go on top 2-0.
  • CU started to get a little more aggressive on the offensive end in the final 20 minutes, but they were unable to get any threatening shots off.
  • The aggressiveness allowed AQ to find a third goal in the 80th minute. Brittney Carter scored after a blocked shot from Katelyn Kahael that was later passed up to Carter who found the net.
  • Cornerstone would fall by the final of 3-0.
