Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles suffered another tough week going 0-2 in the final two non-conference games before WHAC play begins, falling 82-64 vs. Taylor and 68-62 at Governor's State. The games were a tale of two stories as CU held a lead much of the Taylor game and lost it in the fourth quarter, while at Governor's Sate, CU trailed for much of the game and nearly came back falling 68-62. CU is now 0-4 on the year as they look for their first win in conference play at UM-Dearborn and at UNOH this week.
Ainsworth Career High
Stephanie Ainsworth joined her brother Cory Ainsworth with a dominant Saturday on the basketball court with a career high 22 points, doing so in just 18-minutes of action. She added five rebounds and three blocks in the performance while shooting 8-11 from the field.
History in WHAC Opener's
Cornerstone has struggled in WHAC openers over recent years, but have played the top of the conference in most of those contests. The last two years, CU has played NAIA Top 25 Indiana Tech in the opener and lost big. The last victory came in 2017-18, when CU beat #22 Siena Heights by nine in Adrian.
History vs. UM-Dearborn
Cornerstone has lost in their last seven tries against the Wolverines. All-time, CU holds a 32-9 record as UM-Dearborn has really improved over the last five seasons leading to their recent success.
History vs. UNOH
Cornerstone has been solid against the Racers, winning the last three games including setting a program record for three's made in 2020-21. In CU recordable history, the team has an all-time winning record against UNOH at 15-10 overall with the first meeting taking place in 2010.
Scouting UM-Dearborn
The Wolverines earned a win in their first game of the year but have dropped three straight since then as they have scored 51 or less in three of their four contests. UMD is very young with three sophomores in their starting lineup and leading them in scoring with nine, eight, and seven points per game each.
Scouting UNOH
The Racers have played two games this year and gone 1-1 with an 80-56 win over Ohio Christian and a 57-54 loss to IU-Southeast. UNOH has just 10 active players on their roster with eight of them seeing action so far. Senior Jada Haines is the do it all player for Northwestern Ohio, averaging 23.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game. Fellow senior Amy Soumare has been solid on the defensive end this year as well with 11.0 rebounds per game in the first two games.
