Men’s Volleyball continues home stretch vs. Goshen and Olivet College

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles will play two more home games this week with one WHAC contest and one non-conference as they host (RV) Goshen and Olivet College. Cornerstone went 1-1 last week and now sit at 5-9, 1-6 WHAC on the year. A reminder that masks are required in all indoor spaces at Cornerstone University and fans are asked to please comply with the policy for this week's contests.

First WHAC Win
The Golden Eagles earned their first WHAC win last week at Lawrence Tech before falling at home to (10) Lourdes to move to 5-9, 1-6 WHAC on the year. CU saw multiple career highs this last week as David Galanes and Max Hernandez each had 18 kills, Alex Hekman had 14 digs, and Patrick Voloch had 40 assists. 
 
Max Hernandez Continued Success
After setting all of last year, Max Hernandez has found his way as an outside hitter going on an outstanding stretch over the last six games, hitting over .200 in five of the last six contests. Hernandez leads the team with a .245 hitting percentage, is second on the team with 141 assists and is third on the team with 27 blocks. 
 
Scouting Goshen
Cornerstone and Goshen will meet for the first time this season, as the Maple Leafs are 9-4, 2-3 WHAC on the year. Goshen has won three of their last four contests with a veteran roster that has nine juniors or seniors. The Goshen defense has been outstanding this year averaging 11.16 digs per set and a total of 547 digs to rank second in the country. Senior outside hitter Alexander Rabadzhiev continues to be the standout player for GC with a team high 198 kills and .333 hitting percentage to go along with a team high 17 service aces and third best 99 digs.
 
Scouting Olivet 
Cornerstone will play their first non-conference game since January 28, as they host Olivet College on Thursday evening. Olivet College is an NCAA DIII school that has gone 4-6 so far this season, with a current two game winning streak, both against NAIA foes in Olivet Nazarene and Roosevelt. The Olivet offense is run through sophomore Deontay Thomas who leads the team with 128 kills, averaging 4.0 per set. Thomas however is prone to errors with 65 on the year and is only hitting .181 overall. On the year, Olivet has 189 attack errors to 314 kills.
