GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Cornerstone will conclude the season this week with two home games including senior day on Saturday vs. Lourdes where CU will honor the lone senior, Ellen Kresge. CU has won two contests in the last two weeks and looks to end the year on a high note, Wednesday vs. Madonna and Saturday vs. Lourdes. A reminder that masks are required in all indoor facilities at Cornerstone and fans are asked to comply with the policy.
Last Week Recap
Cornerstone had another busy week last week, playing three games with their third consecutive Monday contest. In the three games they went 1-2 with a win over UNOH and losses to UM-Dearborn and Lawrence Tech. Cornerstone has yet to beat a team from the state of Michigan this season going 0-15 in those contests.
Ellen Kresge Senior Day
The lone Golden Eagle senior Ellen Kresge will be honored on Saturday, February 19 in the final CU home game. Ellen is the first player to be coached by Head Coach Jessica Yonkers for four seasons and she averages 4.2 PPG and 4.0 RPG.
Ainsworth's Career Week
The last two games for freshman Stephanie Ainsworth have been career bests on the offensive end as she scored a career high 19 in the win vs. UNOH and followed that up with 16 in the loss to Lawrence Tech. Ainsworth's season average jumps to 6.3 points per game with just two regular season contests remaining.
Mathematically Eliminated
Cornerstone sits 10th in the WHAC standings and to make the WHAC Tournament you must finish top eight. CU has been eliminated from conference tournament contention but still has a chance to move to ninth in the WHAC.
Scouting Madonna
Madonna currently sits eighth in the WHAC with a record of 8-19, 7-11 WHAC. MU has lost three of their last five games but earned a four point win last time out vs. UNOH. Megan Aho leads the team with 15.0 PPG and 7.6 RPG.
Scouting Lourdes
Lourdes sits in ninth in the WHAC with a 3-15 conference record to tie with Cornerstone. The Gray Wolves have lost their last three games and have really struggled on the road going 3-9 in road contests. CU defeated Lourdes earlier in the year in Sylvania, Ohio. LU shoots 37.7% from the field and are led offensively by sophomore forward Mercedes Wagner at 12.6 PPG.
