GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior
Ellen Kresge scored 14 first half points on her day, powering a high-powered Golden Eagle offense to a 77-64 win in their final game of the year. Cornerstone's 2-2-1 defense led to a season high 19 steals, the program's most since November of 2016, led by point guard
Kennedy Helderop's six. The season now ends for Cornerstone as they conclude 2021-22 with a 7-21, 5-15 WHAC record.
Game Flow:
- In a quick paced first quarter, Cornerstone went on an 8-0 early run after giving up the first bucket. Olivia Kubik scored two inside to make the score 8-2.
- After Lourdes responded to make it a one-point game, the lone CU senior Ellen Kresge hit a three to make the score 11-7.
- Cornerstone maintained the lead the remainder of the first quarter as both offenses were flying, 29-22. CU shot 65% in the first quarter.
- With 3:49 to go in the second quarter, Emma Costen hit a pair of free throws to give Cornerstone their first double-digit lead of the game.
- Senior Ellen Kresge again hit a buzzer beater at the halftime horn, with a layup that made it 48-35.
- Cornerstone started the third quarter on a 6-0 run, as Kaycee Sluiter hit a jumper and a layup that put the Golden Eagle advantage at its largest of the game, 54-35.
- Lourdes could not get it back to single-digits, as a Maddison Fulks three later in the period kept the Cornerstone edge at 19.
- Lourdes' Cydney Campbell hit two free throws in the final minute of the third quarter to cut the Golden Eagle advantage to 65-49.
- Shae Pedroza and Maddison Fulks traded threes to begin the fourth quarter.
- The Gray Wolves used some pressure to go on a 9-0 run and cut the Golden Eagle lead to 10 with 5:16 to play.
- Cornerstone did not hit another field goal in the final five minutes, but they hit enough free throws to hold of the Gray Wolves in a 77-64 season ending Senior Day victory.
- Cornerstone ends the year with a 7-21, 5-15 WHAC record.
