Last Week Recap
Cornerstone had a busy week last week with four matches. The week opened with a straight set loss vs. receiving votes Goshen but CU responded to go 2-1 the rest of the week with wins over Olivet College and Alderson Broaddus out of NCAA DII. On the year, Cornerstone is 7-11, 1-8 WHAC as they lost both conference games this last week.
What's Ahead
Cornerstone enters a unique stretch of the season where they will play one more WHAC game vs. Siena Heights before heading to Aquinas to take on Saint Xavier. Both games will take place at 5 p.m. The following week, Cornerstone will hit the road for a spring break trip where they will play six games in Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky.
WHAC Outlook
Of the eight teams in the WHAC, five teams are either ranked or receiving votes. Of the 11 losses Cornerstone has suffered this season, six come to ranked or receiving votes teams. Indiana Tech remains unbeaten at 15-0, 8-0 WHAC to sit two games up in the conference just over half way through the year. CU sits in seventh with a 1-8 conference record.
Six Double-Doubles
Freshman setter
Patrick Voloch has six double-doubles this season including two in his last two contests. Voloch is averaging 7.02 assists per set this season and has 449 for the year to lead the team.
Scouting Siena Heights
Siena Heights has gotten off to a great start this year at 9-3, 5-3 WHAC. Two of the three losses for Siena Heights came to (7) Indiana Tech with the lone other loss coming at Goshen. Earlier in the year, Siena Heights beat Cornerstone in straight sets in Adrian. Ramon Mantos leads the team with 176 kills at 4.40 per set to go along with a .298 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Zak Tucker has had an outstanding year as well averaging 9.68 assists per set to go along with 30 total blocks.
Scouting Saint Xavier
The Cougars have gotten off to a strong start in the Chicagolands Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) with a. 13-5, 6-0 conference record. SXU has won their last 11 contests after starting the year 2-5. In the 11-game win streak, eight of those have come in straight sets. The Saint Xavier offense ranks best in the country with 780 kills to lead the NAIA. They also rank first in the country in service aces and errors as they are one of the most aggressive teams in the country. Individually, SXU has a balanced offense with four players over 100 kills, led by 193 from Shane Ooms the sophomore right side.
