GOSHEN, Ind. – The second-year men's volleyball program sees their season come to an end with a 3-0 loss at receiving votes Goshen College. Cornerstone ends the year much improved from their first season with an 11-21 overall record and a 1-13 WHAC record. CU will not qualify for postseason play and will now enter the offseason to begin preparations for the 2023 season that will pick back up next January.
Game Recap – (RV) Goshen – 3 Cornerstone – 0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-20)
- Alexander Rabadzhiev was a problem for CU in the first meeting and he got off to a great start for Goshen again, helping them take a 7-1 lead with two kills and a service ace.
- After a Jacob Brinks service ace made the deficit five, the Maple Leafs went on a 6-0 run to go on top 16-5.
- Goshen continued to dominate, taking set one 25-9 and scoring the last four points.
- Cornerstone fared much better in set two, taking a 3-1 advantage on a David Rodriguez service ace.
- GC responded to take their first lead of the set with a 5-1 run highlighted by an Andy Bennett and Alexander Rabadzhiev block that gave Goshen a 12-9 edge.
- A Jacob Brinks kill helped Cornerstone respond with a 3-0 run and tie set two at 12.
- Later in the set, Goshen scored four straight to make it 18-14 and force Cornerstone into a timeout.
- Goshen continued to build on their lead in set two and won the set on an attack error from David Rodriguez, 25-16.
- The two teams traded points early in set three. Two ball-handling errors from Michael Wahl of Goshen and a kill from Max Hernandez helped the Golden Eagles to take a 10-8 advantage.
- Goshen responded to tie set three at 14 on an Andy Bennett kill. They then took the lead on a service ace as part of a 5-0 Maple Leaf run.
- Cornerstone continued to cut the deficit to three, but could not get any closer as Goshen took set three 25-20 to take the match 3-0.
By the Numbers
41/7 – Goshen could not be stopped offensively, hitting .500 on the match with 41 kills and just seven errors.
17/6 –
Patrick Voloch led the team with 17 assists and six digs in the loss.

Max Hernandez led the team with six kills in the final match of the year.
What's Next?
Cornerstone ends the 2022 year with an 11-21 record. CU will now enter the offseason and begin preparations for the 2023 year.
