WICHITA, Kan. – The first-year men's wrestling program ended an incredible year with two outstanding first time performances from
Trevor Marsman and
Thade Radosa. Marsman went 2-2 and Radosa went 1-2 as they both were eliminated on day one just short of the placement matches for a chance at NAIA All-American. The two athletes combined for seven team points as the final team results will conclude tomorrow after all the placement matches are completed. Cornerstone has now concluded their year and will look to build on the strong foundation of the first-year program under Head Coach
Chris Williamson.
Trevor Marsman – 125lbs
Trevor Marsman opened CU's action at NAIA Nationals with a tough match against defending national champion Brandon Orum from Life University. Marsman battled hard but was unable to record any points, falling by major decision, 11-0 to send him the consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket, Marsman got a quick victory to stay alive in the championships with a pin at the 1:47 mark over Michael Chagnon a freshman from St. Ambrose.
Again, in a win or go home situation, Marsman was able to get the victory in his third match of the day, with a 16-5 major decision victory over Ca'Ron Johnson the junior from Briar Cliff, dominating from start to finish with two two-point near falls and one four-point near fall in the match.
Marsman picked back up in the evening session with a consolation match vs. Conner Diamond of Lindsey Wilson. He would escape every takedown he got put in quickly, but was unable to get Diamond down as he fell by decision, 14-7. Marsman's time at NAIA Nationals came to an end narrowly missing the placement matches for NAIA All-American.
Thade Radosa – 157lbs
Thade Radosa in his first matched earned the program's first win in NAIA Nationals, pinning his opponent Gabe Blaugh from St. Mary's at the 5:52 mark.
Radosa would fall in his second match of the day, to Wilder Wichman from Thomas More by major decision, 14-6. Radosa was taken down three times in the first period to put him in an early hole that he was unable to recover from in the loss.
Radosa then moved over to the consolation bracket where he took on Carlo Castagnaro from Arizona Christian. Two early take downs put him down three after the first period. Radosa got a late takedown in period three, but it was too late as he fell by decision, 9-3 ending his run at nationals.
