Amber Nicholson Lone Goal
Cornerstone opened the season with a single game last week where Amber Nicholson came off the bench to score the lone Golden Eagle goal from well outside the 18-yard box. This goal marked the second of her career and put CU on top 1-0. Six minutes into the second half, Saint Xavier found a deep goal of their own scoring from roughly 25-yards out to tie the game. Neither team could find a goal in the final 40 minutes resulting in a season opening tie in Chicago.

Five Freshmen/Transfer Starters
Head Coach Randy Strawser and the Golden Eagles knew they had a young team in 2022 and in the season opener Strawser went with five new faces in the starting lineup. Four of those were freshmen, with Hailey Stowe also starting as a sophomore transfer to the program. The trio of Tori Woodwyk, Ainsley Harris, and Hailey Stowe played the full 90 minutes for CU to open the season as well.

History vs. the Olivet's
Cornerstone has a short history with their two opponents this week, never meeting NCAA DIII foe Olivet College out of Battle Creek, Michigan. Olivet Nazarene on the other hand, Cornerstone has played five times and gone 3-2-0, including a 2-1 win at home just last season on September 8. CU has never one on the Tigers home turf, falling 1-0 in both appearances, as they look to change that this weekend.

Scouting the Comets
As an NCAA DIII team, Olivet College has yet to get their season starterd and the road trip to Cornerstone will be their first game of the year. OC has had a tough go of it in the last two seasons, winning just one game combined in 2020 and 2021. Head Coach Doug Carter looks to change that script in his fifth season with the Comets as he uniquely coaches both the men's and women's program. Last season, Olivet scored a total of nine goals. Tied for the team lead was Elisabeth Perez Pablo who returns for her sophomore season. Perez Pablo is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan as she attended Innovation Central.

Scouting the Tigers
Olivet Nazarene has had a busy start to the year, playing three matches against three really good opponents where they fell in all three to start 0-3-0. ONU's first three matches came against three opponents all ranked in the NAIA top 25 in Southeastern, Marian, and Aquinas. They were able to score in two of the three contests, but unable to garnish a win, most recently falling 2-1 at Aquinas. The Tigers have eight seniors on their roster with four of those being starters for Head Coach Bill Bahr in his 24th season as the Olivet Nazarene Head Coach. Last season, Olivet Nazarene finished 9-7-0 on the year and lost in the first round of the CCAC Tournament, 1-0 at home to Saint Ambrose.
