Women's Basketball hit the road as they take on Madonna and Lourdes

Last Week Recap

The Golden Eagles took on Lawrence Tech and UNOH last week that saw them drop a heartbreaker in overtime to Lawrence Tech 82-76 and winning against UNOH 82-71. Cornerstone sits tied for third in the WHAC conference with #RV Siena Heights as the Golden Eagles have an overall record of 9-9 (8-3). Looking ahead to this week, Cornerstone hits the road to face off against Madonna on Wednesday, January 18 for a 5:30 p.m. game. They will then travel to Lourdes on Saturday, January 21 for a 1:00 p.m. to cap off the week. Looking ahead for the Golden Eagles, Senior Night is that not that far off as it will take place on Saturday, February 4 against Aquinas.

Looking at Player Statistics

Cornerstone has gotten off to one of their best starts under Head Coach Jessica Yonkers, in part to her players having good performances in all areas of the game. Cornerstone has players in the top 10 in all but one statistical category in the WHAC. Stephanie Ainsworth is fourth in rebounds per-game at 7.2 and second in field goal percentage at 56.8%. Kennedy Helderop is second in assists per-game at 5.1. The crazy stat for women's basketball is that they have four girls in the top 10 for three-point percentages. Jaylee Long sits in
first at 45.9%, Jaxi Long is in seventh at 36.1%, Maddison Fulks is in eighth at 35.9%, and Olivia Kubik is in tenth at 34.4%. All helping in part to the great start and hopeful finish to their season.

Season Milestones

Stephanie Ainsworth leads the team in rebounds as she has grabbed a team high 129 rebounds for an average of 7.2 per-game. Kennedy Helderop is just eight assists away reaching the 100 assist milestone on the season. The senior has totaled 275 assists and counting in her career at Cornerstone. Mackenzie Stein is second on the team in field goal percentage at 45% and assists at 34 for the season.

Scouting Madonna

Madonna has had a tough season so far as they are 1-16 (0-12) as they host Cornerstone this Wednesday. Madonna averages around 48.4 points per-game on 32.3% shooting from the field, alowing their opponents to score around
71.9 points per-game. The young Madonna team is led by all Freshman in

the scoring department with multiple players averaging above seven points per-game. Cornerstone won the first matchup against Madonna 85-55 on November 16.

Scouting Lourdes

Lourdes comes into the game against Cornerstone at 6-13 (3-8) on the year losing their last four games. Lourdes is always a tough matchup for the Golden eagles, especially when traveling there. Cornerstone was able to win the earlier matchup against the Gray Wolves 91-70 on November 19. Lourdes

is averaging 65.7 points per-game shooting 38.9% from the field. The Gray Wolves are led by the Pedroza sisters as Freshman Emma Pedroza leads the way at 11.8 points per-game and 4.2 rebounds while older sister Shae Pedroza averages 10.1 points per-game and 3.4 rebounds.
