Another successful event for Track & Field sees five Auto Qualifiers and one Provisional Qualifier that highlights their day at the Bill Clinger Invitational

ALLENDALE, Mich. –  It was another successful event for the Golden Eagles that saw five NAIA Auto Qualifications and one Provisional Qualifier in the GVSU Bill Clinger Event. Colten Convington and Josh DeVries earned Auto Standard while Ryan Shinabery set a new Freshman Throw Record on the men's side. Anna Martin, Tatum Townsend, and Ashley Verplank earned Auto Standards on the women's side. Cornerstone will head to Aquinas next week for the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic Event on Friday, February 3.
 
Men's Results:
 
Peter Willcome got the event started for the men competing in the Heptathlon and is currently sitting in 7th with an overall score of 2221 with two events remaining which will take place tomorrow morning.
 
Josh DeVries beat his last week jump of 4.76m with a new PR and NAIA "A" Standard of 4.80m that saw him win the men's pole vault.
 
Ryan Shinabery set a new Freshman record in the weight throws with his best throw of 15.74, which moves him into 7th on the all-time Indoor Track list. Nick Huynh finished in 2nd overall in the shotput with a throw of 13.76m.
 
Colten Convington beat his early PR time in the 3000m of 8:26:33 and ran a NAIA "A" Standard 8:23:09 to keep himself in the 3rd spot in the all-time Indoor Track list. Colten finished in second for the event. Luke Pohl also ran a "B" standard time of 8:34:55. In an earlier event, Colten moved into the top 10 all-time in the mile with a time of 4:18:39.
 
Seth Stoltz, Josh DeVries, Alexander Schmidt, and Jadyn Courtney highlighted one of the last events for Cornerstone in the 4x400m and cracked the top 10 indoor all-time list for the first time since 2013 with a time of 3:21:01 that was good for 4th in the event.
 
Women's Results:
 
Katelynn Dix got the day started this morning competing in the Pentathlon finishing third overall with a combined score of 2881, which moves her into 10th place on the all-time indoor track list. Her highlighted event was a 2nd place finish in the long jump, with a jump of 4.94m.
 
Ashley Verplank continued her dominance in pole vault, improving from her previous jump of 3.75 from the last meet and setting a new PR of 3.88 which ties the school record that Amy Boyer set back in 2011. Tatum Townsend also with an NAIA "A" standard with a jump of 3.58, giving her a new PR.
 
Anna Martin got her NAIA "A" Standard National Qualifier with a PR in the mile run with a time of 4:59:00 that moves her to 2nd all time for Cornerstone Indoor Track. Malarie Pinwar ran a 5:03:91 mile that saw her crack the top 10 indoor all-time list again.
 
Chelsee Martino was the highlight of the 60m sprints with a PR of 8.13 that moved her into the top 10 in the indoor all-time list, sitting tied for 9th.
 
In the throws, Claire Meacham finished in 5th for the event with her longest weight throw 14.30m, moving her into the top 10 sitting in 8th place on the all-time list. She also cracked the top 10 in the shotput with a throw of 11.42m. Jenna Breuker finished with 11.69m, which was 8th for the event.
 
What's Next?
Cornerstone will be back in action next Friday, February 3 for the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic at Aquinas with an expected start time of 5 p.m.
