LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The second-year wrestling program got to face two of the nation's best on Friday afternoon to open the NWCA National Duals falling 41-6 to (2) Life and 33-10 to (6) Ottawa. Cornerstone saw some outstanding individual performances throughout the day but could not string victories together to stay close against two top 10 opponents. The Golden Eagles will now compete in the 13th-16th place bracket tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. back in Louisville, Kentucky.

#2 Life (Ga.) – 41 def. #RV Cornerstone - 6
Cornerstone was anticipating their opening match starting with a rematch of an NAIA National Tournament dual at 125 lbs, but Life chose to go with Chase Ayers to take on Trevor Marsman in the first match. After getting taken down early, Marsman responded with two big takedowns to go up 4-2. Marsman would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way earning a 9-4 decision to put CU up 3-0 as a team.

Second ranked Life quickly turned the script and proved why they are one of the best getting a pin in each of the next two matches at the 133 pound and 141-pound weight class.

At 157, Thade Radosa hung tough with Miguel Angel Hernandez after falling behind early. In the third period he was able to gain points to stay alive but fell 8-5 by decision.

Joe Lashuay continued his outstanding start to his collegiate career hanging tough with Tyler Brandt through the first two periods at 174. In the third however, Brandt would record a big takedown and ride his way to the finish line for a 7-4 decision victory.

The match ended with Sterling McLaughlin making his debut at the heavyweight. The big freshman that CU is high on did a great job staying on his feet forcing a scoreless first period. A late illegal move by Life allowed McLaughlin to tie the match at one. Mclaughlin would then earn an escape point to take a 2-1 lead with a bloody nose. With a wrap that was completely covering his nose and face, he earned a takedown to increase his lead to 4-1 with 39 seconds to go. Battling blood the remainder of the way, he was able to secure the victory over Spencer Dacus to end the match.

Life would win the team score 41-6 and drop Cornerstone to the consolation bracket.

Thade Radosa flipped the script back, dominating his opponent from start to finish with a near fall and multiple takedowns. He would go on to win 14-1 by major decision and earn the Golden Eagles four big points.

In a battle of Anderson's, Noah Anderson got off to a strong start in a defensive match. He recorded a big takedown to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. In the second he chose bottom and got a quick escape to increase the lead to 3-1. Ottawa's Braden Anderson was not done yet, tying the match back up at three with a takedown to end the second period. Ottawa chose down in the third and was able to get an escape to go back on top 4-3. Ottawa sealed the victory with a takedown to defeat Noah Anderson by decision, 6-4.
