LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Just like the first day, Cornerstone faced two more national ranked opponents in #9 Camplesville and #19 Oklahoma City. The Golden Eagles started their day against #9 Camplesville and losing 28-9 but finished their day strong by upsetting #19 Oklahoma City 22-18 in a tightly contested match. Cornerstone can look back at this tournament knowing what they must work on to compete with the best as they had excellent performances by their wrestlers all weekend. Looking ahead now, Cornerstone has a quick two-day break before they travel to Rochester to play two WHAC opponents in Cleary and Rochester University on Tuesday, January 10.
Day Two Action
#9 Camplesville (Ky.) – 28 def #RV Cornerstone – 9
Thomas Zielinski got the wrestling started for the Golden Eagles in a tightly contest match that saw a lot of takedowns between the two wrestlers. Zielinski would not be able to make the finishing moves losing by decision 16-13.
Trevor Marsman went up in weight class and is wrestling at 133 but that didn't bother him as he showed why he is still one of the best. Marsman got down early but was able to pull off the takedown and four near fall in the final period to take the lead and eventual victory by decision 9-6.
Devan Johnson than gave Cornerstone the lead early in the dual with another tightly contested match that saw Devan get the reversal and grab the lead that he would be able to hold on and win by decision 6-4.
Camplesville would then take control of the dual by winning the next six weight classes that would just leave the heavy weights to battle it out. Each wrestler gave their best in their respected duals but was not able to make the moves to win their match.
Sterling McLuaghlin would finish out the dual against Camplesville with an impressive dual that saw Sterling win another one by decision 4-2. It was close one from start to finish that saw Sterling make sure that he was not giving up the lead and giving Cornerstone the victory to close out the dual.
Camplesville would win the dual with a team score of 28-9.

Thomas Zielinski and
Trevor Marsman got the dual started on the right track for the Golden Eagles as Zielinski had a nice easy dual that he won by forfeit as Marsman was more of a tough battle. Marsman was able to take a 3-2 lead in the second period as that was all he needed to win as he was eventually able to get an escape in the third period to eventually win by decision 4-2.
Oklahoma City would that take the momentum winning the 141-weight class as
Devan Johnson would lose to fall. Cornerstone had to forfeit the 149-weight class. The 157-weight class was a close one as
Thade Radosa went head-to-head with his matchup losing on a heartbreak takedown with only five seconds remaining in the third period losing by decision 3-1.
Cornerstone would then respond swiftly in the next three weight classes as
Noah Anderson pulled out a victory late thanks to a late third period escape that would give him the win by decision 8-7.
Joe Lashuay got back to his winning ways with takedowns in the second and third periods that would wound up giving him the victory by decision 8-5.
Jacob Nelson would then give Cornerstone lead as he won a high scoring matchup by decision 11-7.
Oklahoma City would then tie the dual back up at 18-18 as
Jackson Turner lost by decision 6-2 to his opponent. It all came down to
Sterling McLaughlin as he looked to wrap up his excellent debut weekend with another victory. It was all Sterling from the start of the match as he got an early takedown that was essentially enough for him to win as his opponent stalled giving Sterling more points where he would wound up winning my major decision 12-0.
Cornerstone would end up winning the dual with a team score of 22-18.
