Pink Out Game
Cornerstone will be hosting a Pink Out Game vs. rival (4) Aquinas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in partnership with Professor Scott Huckaby's sports management class. CU is asking fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness and will be selling items to raise money for such awareness.
Surpassing 2022 Season High
Freshman
Gracie Gortmaker has already surpassed the team high in goals from a season ago with six regular season games remaining. After last week's performance, Gortmaker now has six goals and an assist to lead the team with 13 points. Gortmaker is tied for fifth in the WHAC for goals scored this season, as everyone is chasing Sydney Shenk from Aquinas who has nine.
Rau Back in the Score Column
Junior
Arianna Rau led Cornerstone in goals in 2021 with seven, but after an injury ridden season in 2022 had not scored since. On Saturday, Rau found the score line again with a beautiful goal to make it 3-0 vs. Indiana Tech. Rau now has one goal and one assist for a team fourth best three points this season.
4th and 23rd
The Golden Eagles continue to earn shutouts as they now have six on the year. They rank fourth in the WHAC with that line and 23
rd in the nation. Freshman keeper
Morgan Scholten is now allowing under a goal a game and is third in the conference in goals against average behind Siena Heights and Aquinas' goalkeepers. Both those teams rank first and second in the team standings in the WHAC as well.
Last Time vs. a Top Five Foe
Cornerstone has not seen a taste of an NAIA top five program since 2017 when they faced off with Northwestern Ohio who was ranked third in the country at the time. CU fell 4-0 in that contest. A much-improved Golden Eagle team looks to upset the Saints on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at CU Soccer Field.
Scouting Aquinas
The Saints have yet to be beaten this season with a 9-0-2 record overall. Last time out, they suffered their second tie of the year in a scoreless draw vs. UNOH. Aquinas has clicked on all facets of the game this season scoring 37 goals and allowing just two. Sydney Shenk is the WHAC leader in goals for the Saints with nine goals and five assists. Keeper Kayla Shuk has sat behind an outstanding defense in net, facing just 18 shots in 10 games allowing just two goals for 0.2 goals against average.
Scouting UNOH
The Racers are hitting their stride of late with a 6-4-2, 3-1-1 WHAC record. Last time out they tied Aquinas 0-0 after winning three consecutive contests. UNOH early season struggles were attributed to not being able to find the net, but over the last four games they have scored 10 of their 20 goals on the year. The Racers are very balanced offensively as well, with 10 different players scoring their 20 goals led by Ashley Wilson with four.
