GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone faced off with their first NAIA Top 10 opponent since 2017 and first NAIA Top 25 opponent of the 2023 season in rival Aquinas, falling 3-0 at home on Wednesday night. CU gave up early goals in each half and could not recover to drop to 6-3-2 on the year. The tough stretch of WHAC play continues Saturday at UNOH for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff in Lima, Ohio.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 (7) Aquinas - 3
First Half
- It did not take long for the Saints to find the scoreboard as a deep ball from Avery Tack found the speedy feet of Macy Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth slipped a shot passed CU keeper Morgan Scholten to make it 1-0 in the third minute.
- Cornerstone saw a couple of chances in the 10th minute against a defense that has only allowed two goals all season. Gracie Gortmaker took a first shot that led to a rebound, and Kailey Dodge's second attempt would go wide.
- AQ would find a second goal in the 23rd minutes as substitute Brittney Probst dribbled down the far sideline and was able to beat the Cornerstone defense to make it 2-0.
- In the 29th minute, AQ earned a corner that was played in well. A quick flick inside the box led to a threatening chance but the Saints could not get a shot off and the score remained 2-0.
- Myra Hunt found CU's first shot in a while in the 37th minute attempting one from well outside the 18. Kayla Shuk was able to make a comfortable save and keep CU off the board.
- Aquinas would hold a 2-0 lead at the half despite Cornerstone being outshot by just two in the period.
Second Half
- Just like the first half, Aquinas found a quick goal in the second half scoring in the 49th minute. After a first attempt was blocked, Laia Cuncill took a shot from outside the 18-yard-box and floated it over keeper Morgan Scholten to make it 3-0.
- Aquinas continued to dominate possession, outshooting CU 7-0 in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
- Morgan Scholten continued to be confident on her line helping limit the damage and keeping the deficit at just three for much of the second half.
- In the 74th minute, Aquinas saw a header shot that hit the crossbar keeping the score at 3-0.
- In the 77th minute, Cornerstone saw a counterattack. Tori Woodwyk got behind the backline but missed high and wide on the first CU shot of the second half.
- Cornerstone was unable to find the net, falling 3-0 to drop to 6-3-2 on the year.
By the Numbers
3 – Cornerstone is shutout for just the third time this season.
20-4 – Aquinas outshot Cornerstone 20-4 on the game.
4-3-1 – CU drops to 4-3-1 in home contests this season.

Cornerstone continues a gauntlet of a stretch in WHAC play, traveling to Northwestern Ohio on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. match.
