GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Golden Eagles had a strong week of representation in the WHAC Player of the Week awards earning three honors.
Kylie Barron was named the Women's Volleyball Defender of the Week,
Roberto Gutierrez earned Men's Soccer Defender of the Week, and
Landon Wanless earned Men's Golfer of the Week. All three contributed in huge ways, highlighted by a school record from Wanless.
Kylie Barron - Jr. - WHAC Defender of the Week
Despite a 1-2 week,
Kylie Barron was crucial in the Golden Eagles win with a career high 11 blocks. Barron averaged two blocks on the week and she leads the Golden Eagles with blocks with 111 on the year to rank eighth in the NAIA this season.
Roberto Gutierrez - So. - WHAC Defender of the Week
Roberto Gutierrez had an outstanding week helping the Golden Eagles to a 1-0-1 record. Gutierrez made 10 total saves, allowing just one goal against two teams toward the top of the WHAC. CU upset (RV) Lawrence Tech to start the week before tying Madonna to end the week. Gutierrez had a save percentage over .900 on the week and he now holds a 4-7-4 record.
Landon Wanless - So. - WHAC Golfer of the Week
Landon Wanless had probably the most successful week of any Golden Eagle athlete, tying a 21 year old school record for a round of 18 at Egypt Valley. Wanless shot a 66 in that round and finished the 54-hole tournament at an even par to win the event individually. The record that Wanless tied was held by current Cornerstone Athletic Director, Aaron Sagraves.
