VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Golden Eagle women finished the 2023 cross country season as one of the top 20 NAIA programs for the sixth consecutive year, earning 20
th overall with 497 team points in the first ever 6,000m championship on Friday afternoon. CU saw two PR's and an NAIA All-American performance from fifth-year senior
Haley Nieuwkoop, who earned 12
th individually at the race. On the men's side, CU saw
Jamin Thompson represent the Golden Eagles individually, as he earned 94
th overall with a time of 26:13.12. The cross country campaign has now come to an end, as Cornerstone will begin prep for the indoor track & field season that is set to begin in December.
Women's Results:
Expecting rain in the forecast, the Golden Eagles saw a beautiful morning in Vancouver, Washington for the first NAIA 6,000m Championship.
Haley Nieuwkoop was consistent throughout the race staying within the top 15 throughout and finishing 12
thoverall with a mark of 22:00.4 to earn her first cross country NAIA All-American honor since 2020.
Kori Baumann earned 44
th (not including individual qualifying marks), as she continued her outstanding end to the season with a new PR of 23:04.7 to finish second for the Golden Eagles.
Rachel Barone stepped up in a huge way as well, finishing fourth among her team and 143
rd overall with a PR of 24:27.6 in the event.
As a team, Cornerstone finished 20
th overall with 497 team points. CU was the top finishing program in the WHAC and outran their initial seeding of 23
rd going into the race.

Jamin Thompson:
Thompson raced in the men's 8,000m, representing Cornerstone as an individual qualifier. After a bit of a slow start in the first 1,000m, Thompson made a huge jump at the 2,000m split and continued to make jumps throughout the race. He would finish 94
th overall with a mark of 26:13.2, running his fastest split at 3:09.
What's Next?
Cornerstone will begin preparations for the indoor track & field season that will begin in December.
