Women's Basketball struggles on the road in a loss to Lawrence Tech 75-67

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Women's Basketball looked to keep their run of good basketball going, but Lawrence Tech stopped them in their path in a 75-67 loss. The Golden Eagles fell down early and battled back throughout the game but could not get within reach of Lawrence Tech. Cornerstone shot 37.7% from the field, making only four three pointers for the entire game on their way to another road loss. Olivia Kubik led the way for Cornerstone scoring 17 points as the Golden Eagles now fall to 9-7 (7-4) on the year. Women's Basketball will be back in action on Saturday, January 20 as they head to UNOH for a 1 p.m game.
 
 
Game Highlights – Lawrence Tech – 75 Cornerstone - 67
 
  • First Quarter
    • Lawrence Tech and Cornerstone got off to a slow start on the offensive end as the game is tied 4-4 through the first three minutes of the game.
    • After a pair of free throws and a nice post move, the Blue Devils took an 8-6 lead over the Golden Eagles through five minutes in the first quarter.
    • Gracie Gortmaker and Stephanie Ainsworth would make back-to-back layups the next two possession to give Cornerstone a 10-8 lead.
    • Lawrence Tech used a 6-0 run to take a 14-10 lead over the Golden Eagles. The streak stopped when Gracie Gortmaker completed the three-point play with 2:30 left in the first to make it 14-13.
    • Cornerstone scores two more at the free throw line but sees themselves down 17-15 after the end of the first quarter.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Emma Costen scored the first basket for the Golden Eagles in the second quarter as Lawrence Tech continued to lead 21-17.
    • Jaylee Long ended the scoring drought for the Golden Eagles with a wing three. Stephanie Ainsworth followed that up with back-to-back layups to make it a 25-24 Blue Devil lead.
    • Mackenzie Stien finds an easy basket off the pass of Olivia Kubik as Golden Eagles still find themselves down 33-30 with three minutes remaining in the half.
    • Lawrence Tech ends the half on a 5-3 run to head into halftime leading 38-32. Stephanie Ainsworth is leading the way with 12 points for the Golden Eagles.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • Lawrence Tech opened the second half on a 7-2 run to take a 45-34 lead over the Golden Eagles. The turnovers were a problem early for Cornerstone.
    • Olivia Kubik ended the Lawrence Tech run with a three as she has all five points for Cornerstone to start the third quarter.
    • Olivia Kubik and Jaylee Long spark a 4-0 run to cut into the Lawrence Tech lead as Jaxi Long gets the block on the defensive end. The Blue Devils still lead 47-41.
    • Lawrence Tech can't miss from behind the arc as they have made three straight threes to extend their lead 56-45 as Cornerstone calls a timeout.
    • The Golden Eagles ended the third quarter with a 5-0 run thanks to a three from Olivia Kubik and a jumper from Laura Innerrebner. Lawrence Tech leads 56-50 headed into the fourth.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech went back-and-forth to open the fourth quarter as Jaylee Long and Gracie Gortmaker have baskets for the Golden Eagles. Lawrence Tech still leads by six, 61-55.
    • Lawrence Tech went on a 10-2 run that forced Cornerstone to call a timeout as the Blue Devils now lead 71-57 with 4:50 remaining in the fourth.
    • Cornerstone has continued to slowly chip away at the Blue Devil lead, down 10 with 1:40 remaining in the fourth quarter.
    • The comeback fell short for the Golden Eagles as Lawrence Tech would ice the game away at the line, as Cornerstone falls on the road 75-67
