Women's Basketball hosts Rochester and Aquinas in an important homestand

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's Basketball is back in action with home games against Rochester and Aquinas for an important homestand. Cornerstone opens the week facing off against Rochester on Wednesday, January 10 at 5:30 p.m. before rounding out the week against Aquinas on Saturday, January 13 at 1 p.m. Both teams are one game behind the Golden Eagles in the WHAC standings coming into this week.

Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles were on the road last week against Cleary and Siena Heights. They finished the week going 1-1 with a 63-45 win over Cleary where Olivia Kubik led the way with 20 points as Stephanie Ainsworth recorded a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds. They had a true test against Siena Heights as they were riding an 11-game win streak going into the game against the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone would eventually lose late 78-58 to end the week at 1-1.
 
Team Stats
Women's Basketball has three players shooting 35% or better from the behind the arc this season. Olivia Kubik leads the way shooting 39.7%, Maddison Fulks is right behind her at 37.7%, and Jaxi Long is shooting 35.9% to round out the top three shooters for the team. Stephanie Ainsworth recorded her third double-double of the season in the victory over Cleary where she is averaging 12.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per-game.
 
Scouting Rochester
Rochester comes into the matchup against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 7-7, losing their last two games. The Warriors are in an offensive slump averaging just 42.5 points in their last two games but are still averaging 69.4 points per-game, shooting 40% from the field. Rochester is led by senior guard Celeste Mershimer who is averaging 13.2 points on 41.8% shooting from the field. Freshman Jacey Somers is right behind her at 12.8 points per-game to round out the top scorers.
 
Scouting Aquinas
Aquinas comes into the week against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 7-7, riding a three-game winning streak as they take on top conference opponent Concordia to open the week. The Saints are averaging 75.3 points and holding opponents to 60 during their win streak. The Saints are led by reigning WHAC Player of the Week Alona Blackwell as she is averaging 25.4 points per-game, while shooting 46.9% from the field. The Saints win streak also started when Claire Gregwer started to play as in her three games she is averaging a double-double of 13.7 points and 12 rebounds per-game.
