GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles got back on track against conference opponent Lawrence Tech.
Gracie Gortmaker led the way for Cornerstone thanks to a first half brace in the match.
Tori Woodwyk also capped off the night with a chip shot over the keeper as the time expired to give the Golden Eagles a well-deserved 3-0 victory. Women's Soccer will be back in action at home facing Defiance on Saturday, October 19 for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Lawrence Tech – 0
First Half
- Cornerstone started the match off fast with a near goal from Tori Woodwyk, but her header hit the post which kept the match at 0-0 in the second minute.
- Alaina Kregel sent a perfect cross just in front of the keeper, but Arianna Brooks was unable to finish the goal in the fifth minute of the match.
- The Golden Eagles continued their heavy offensive pressure with another close attempt at goal after Gracie Gortmaker's fancy footwork, but the match remained at 0-0 in the 17th minute.
- Cornerstone finally broke through with a fantastic through ball that led to a Gracie Gortmaker goal which made the match 1-0 in the 22ndminute.
- Morgan Scholten made a crucial save in the 24th minute as she faced a one-on-one which kept the slim Cornerstone 1-0 lead.
- Gracie Gortmaker doubled the Cornerstone lead with another smooth finish in front of goal which made the match 2-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
- The halftime score finished 2-0 thanks to two first half goals from Gracie Gortmaker.
Second Half
- The second half started off better for the Blue Devils as they tallied two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the second half, yet the match remained at 2-0.
- Cornerstone continued to fight for the ball and earned two corner kicks in the 72nd minute but could not find another goal to add to their lead.
- Gracie Gortmaker nearly found her third goal of the match in the 77th minute but her shot sailed just high.
- Tori Woodwyk capped off the night with a stellar chip shot from outside the box as time expired to give the Golden Eagles the 3-0 victory.
