UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – Women's Basketball was back in action for the first time in 10-days and came away with a tough loss to #RV Governors State 83-75. The Jaguars shot just 36.4% from the field in the first half, but came out hot in the second, scoring 30 points on 73% shooting as that proved to be the difference maker in this game.

Olivia Kubik sparked the Golden Eagles as they both scored 18 points to lead the way. Women's Basketball will look to shake off this loss as they are right back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on #8 Rio Grande at 3 p.m.
Game Recap: #RV Governors State – 83 Cornerstone - 75
First Quarter – Cornerstone – 21 Governors State – 20
- The Golden Eagles started the game off hot as Jaxi Long completed the three-point play to give Cornerstone a 7-2 lead.
- Cornerstone continued to lead through the first four-minutes of the game as a Stephanie Ainsworth layup made it 11-8.
- Governors State would tie the game at 13, but a quick Golden Eagle 6-2 saw them retake the lead 19-15 over the Jaguars.
- The Jaguars would take their first lead of the game thanks to a layup, but Stephanie Ainsworth would make one of her own on the other end to give the Golden Eagles a 21-20 lead after the first quarter.
Second Quarter – Cornerstone – 33 Governors State – 33
- Cornerstone opened the second quarter on a three-minute 6-0 run to extend their lead to 27-20 that was highlighted by an Olivia Kubik three.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone through the first five-minutes of the second quarter as they have held Governors State scoreless as they lead 29-20.
- The Jaguars finally started to get a groove on offense as an 8-0 run cut into Cornerstones lead, 29-28 as three minutes remain in the second quarter.
- The Golden Eagle offense has started to stall in the latter half of the second quarter as a bucket from Governors State sees them tie it at 33 as the game heads into halftime.
- Both teams have played good defense 20-minutes into the game with both under 40% from the field as Cornerstone shot 38.5% with Governors State at 36.4%
Third Quarter – Governors State – 63 Cornerstone - 50
- The Golden Eagles retook the lead to open the third quarter thanks to a layup from Mackenzie Goodwin to make it 37-34.
- Governors State has gone on a big 10-2 run to take a 46-41 lead as the Golden Eagles call a timeout to regroup.
- The run continued for the Jaguars as they continued to make tough jumpers as they have grown their lead to 54-41, an 18-2 run as three-minutes remain in the third quarter.
- Olivia Kubik finally ends the drought for the Golden Eagles with a three as Stephanie Ainsworth follows with a layup to make it 56-46.
- A strong 30-point third quarter by the Jaguars sees them lead the Golden Eagles 63-50 as the game heads into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter – Governors State – 83 Cornerstone – 75
- Governors State has just continued to put the pressure on the Golden Eagles as they opened the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run to make it 69-52.
- Jaxi Long knocks down the jumper to make it a 74-59 game with 4:41 left.
- An 8-0 run by the Golden Eagles sees them slowly climb back into the game as the Jaguars continued to lead 74-67 with 1:45 to go.
- Cornerstone and Governors State continued to trade baskets, but an Emma Costen three-point play made it 78-72 with 48 seconds left.
- The Jaguars big second half propels them to an 83-75 victory over the Golden Eagles.
