Women's Basketball ends the regular season with a 76-69 victory over Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -  On the final regular season game of the year, women's basketball traveled to Rochester and came away with a 76-69 victory. With that victory, the Golden Eagles will host the first round of the WHAC Tournament for the first time in 10 years. Stephanie Ainsworth led the way for Cornerstone with 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Golden Eagles end the year with a 15-12 record. Who they play on Wednesday, February 28 will be announced later this weekend.
 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 76 Rochester - 69
 
  • First Quarter
    • Maddison Fulks made back-to-back jumpers for the Golden Eagles to tie the game 4-4 through the first four minutes.
    • A 6-0 run by the Golden Eagles has them winning 10-5 over Rochester after a Gracie Gortmaker steal and layup.
    • Gracie Gortmaker scored four straight points for the Golden Eagles to extend the lead 14-9 late in the first quarter.
    • The Golden Eagles are up on the Warriors 14-12 after the first quarter.
 
  • Second Quarter
    • Stephanie Ainsworth scored six-straight points to open the second quarter to give Cornerstone a 20-12 lead.
    • A Maddison Fulks jumper and an Olivia Kubik layup continues to grow the Golden Eagles lead, 24-15.
    • A quick 4-0 run by the Warriors has them cut into Cornerstones lead 26-21 with just over four-minutes to go in the second quarter. Jaylee Long would answer with a jumper of her own.
    • Laura Innerebner finishes through contact and makes the free throw to complete the three-point play as the Golden Eagles head into halftime leading 33-25.
 
  • Third Quarter
    • Cornerstone and Rochester has opened the second half with easy baskets as a layup from Olivia Kubik makes it 40-29.
    • A 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles has them extend their lead to 45-29 thanks to a layup from Stephanie Ainsworth.
    • A deep three from Olivia Kubik and a layup from Stephanie Ainsworth gives them another 5-0 run that saw them continue to have a 14-point lead, 51-37 with three minutes to go in the third quarter.
    • Make it the third 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles in the third quarter. Olivia Kubik made another deep three and Gracie Gortmaker followed with a layup.
    • Cornerstone heads into the fourth quarter with a 59-44 lead.
 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Rochester opened the fourth quarter on a quick 6-0 run that forced Cornerstone to call a timeout. The Golden Eagles lead 59-50.
    • Stephanie Ainsworth ends the Golden Eagle scoring drought with a layup in the paint.
    • Mackenzie Stien and Gracie Gortmaker make back-to-back layups for the Golden Eagles to make it a 68-54 game with just under five-minutes to go.
    • The Golden Eagles continues to answer after every Rochester basket as they continue to lead 74-61 with two-minutes to go.
    • Cornerstone would finish the regular season with a 76-69 victory over Rochester.
