MELBOURNE, Fla. - Cornerstone and Calumet battled for 13 innings to open the day and then CU was unable to hold on to a big early lead against Saint Francis as the Golden Eagles dropped a pair of 1-run games on Thursday afternoon. The pair of losses drop Cornerstone to 6-6 on the season as they will get right back at it Friday with a 10am matchup against Marian (Ind.), followed by a 2:30pm contest against Bethel.

Game One Highlights – Calumet St Joseph 9, Cornerstone 8 (13)
- Back to back singles with two outs and then a double-steal allowed the Wave to score first to go up 1-0
- CU came back with two runs of their own on a big 2-out hit from Delaney Wilson, scoring Anna Griffioen and Jolie Groeneveld.
- The Golden Eagles would add to their lead in the third inning after Groeneveld singled to lead off and she was later advanced to third on a sac bunt from Sam Timmer. Moriah Sprague then singled her home to put CU up 3-1
- Calumet posted five straight singles and followed with a sac fly to score three runs in their half of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead
- A Jolie Groeneveld double to lead off the 5th would result in the game tying run as the senior came home after a sac bunt from Sam Timmer and then a wild pitch
- CU escaped a huge jam in the top of the 7th as CCSJ put their first two batters on but a fly out, ground out and fly out ended the threat
- A double by Sprague with two outs in the 7th positioned CU for the walk off win but the Golden Eagles were not able to come up with the big hit
- Playing in extras for the second straight game
- CCSJ scored one in the 8th but so did CU to send it o the 9th.
- Neither team scored in the 9th or 10th
- After the Wave put up two runs in the 12th, CU would again tie it to force another extra inning as Griffioen singled and Nagelhout hit a sac fly
- CCSJ scored one run in the 13th after a scary collision at the plate forced a CU player out and the Golden Eagles were unable to come up with the tying run int he bottom of the 13th as they fell 9-8 after 3:17 of play

Game Two Highlights – Saint Francis 9, Cornerstone 8
- Another quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles saw them put up three runs in the top of the first as Moriah Sprague, Alayna Meade and Maddy Chatman all collected RBI's
- The Cougars quickly evened the score at 3-3 with all of their runs coming with two outs in the bottom of the first
- In the back and forth action, Cornerstone went back up by three in the second inning as Jolie Groeneveld singled home Nagelhout and Paige Liddell and then Jolie was brought home on a Moriah Sprague single
- Saint Francis put some pressure on CU in their half of the second but managed just one run to make it 6-4
- CU tacked one run on in the third inning when Delaney Wilson brought home Maddy Chatman and then another in the fourth to go up 8-4
- USF slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring one in the fourth and two in the fifth
- The Cougars continued their rally in the bottom of the sixth as they score two more runs to take a 9-8 lead which they would hold on to for the victory
What's Next?
Cornerstone will continue their spring break trip at the Space Coast Games with two games on Friday. CU will take on a pair of Crossroads League foes in No. 10 Marian and Bethel (Ind.). Game times are set for 10am and 2:30pm.
