After Two Upset Victories, Softball falls to Aquinas 3-2, One Game Shy of the WHAC Championship

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Softball found themselves in day two of the WHAC Tournament facing off against Concordia to open play for the day. Cornerstone scored two early runs in the first to kick off the game, but Concordia would storm back to tie it. Another two-run inning by the Golden Eagles proved to be the difference maker as Allie Lubben would shut down the Cardinals to help Softball to a 4-3 victory.

They would then advance to the next round where they would get the rematch they wanted as they would face off against UNOH for the second time in the tournament. The pitching was outstanding for both sides as the game remained scoreless until the sixth inning where Alexis Ashbay would hit a two-run homerun to give Cornerstone a 2-0 lead. Alyssa Braam threw a perfect game, not allowing a runner to reach base/record a hit, to give Cornerstone a 2-0 victory as they would pay back getting no hit in the first matchup yesterday.

With one game before the WHAC Championship and automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament, Softball faced off against rival Aquinas. Aquinas took advantage of a few Cornerstone miscues en-route to a three-run inning to take a 3-0 lead. Cornerstone would fight back, scoring two in the fifth inning to make it a 3-2 game but would eventually come up short, falling 3-2, one game short of the WHAC Championship game.

The Golden Eagles finish the year with an overall record of 26-23. With the year coming to a close, stay up to date on all things Softball like schedule releases and signings at cugoldeneagles.com.
