Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer battled against #24 Aquinas College in the WHAC quarterfinal on Saturday, November 1st. The Golden Eagles fought hard in the tournament matchup but ultimately fell 2-0. Women's Soccer finish the year with a 6-10-2 record while going 5-6-1 in the conference.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Aquinas – 2
First Half:
- The match opened with three straight shots for Aquinas, two going wide with the third saved by CU goalkeeper Corinne McGlassion.
- The Golden Eagles responded with back-to-back shots of their own in the seventh minute, with Gracie Gortmaker's shot getting blocked followed by Madie Smith who saw her shot saved by the Saints goalkeeper.
- In the 28th minute Aquinas sent a flurry of shots, but both were blocked by Cornerstone defenders.
- Cornerstone received a yellow card in the 32nd minute.
- Between the 33rd and 37th minute the Saints had three corner kicks which led to a shot blocked by CU and then a header that was sent wide of the frame.
- Two fouls on Cornerstone led to Aquinas scoring the first goal of the game to a take 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
Second Half:
- The second half started with the Saints sending a shot wide of the frame and get a corner kick opportunity shortly after.
- Cornerstone got their first scoring chance in the second half with a corner kick which led to a header by Kaitlynn Sal that was sent wide.
- The Saints transitioned back into the CU zone sending a shot high of the goal which was followed by another shot that was saved by Corinne McGlassion.
- Aquinas had another scoring opportunity in 62nd minute but sent a shot wide left.
- After a Cornerstone foul, the Saints got a free kick just outside of the box and the shot from Aquinas was sent high and wide in the 72nd minute.
- Kaitlynn Sal was given a yellow card in the 75th minute.
- The Golden Eagles got two corner kicks in the 82nd and 83rd minute. The first led to a shot from Ally Merrihew which was blocked, then a header from Kaitlynn Sal off the second corner kick was also blocked by Aquinas.
- Aquinas grew their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 85th minute.
