Two A Standards Highlight the GVSU Holiday Open

Allendale, Mich. – Both the Women's and Men's Track & Field teams got right back to work today at Grand Valley State University for the annual GVSU Holiday Open. 

The competition saw two A Standard performances set by Ryan Shinabery in the Weight Throw at 18.93m and Claire Meacham in the Weight Throw with 17.40m. The Golden Eagles continued setting high standards with five B Standards set across other events. Andrew Miller tied the school record in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.05, while Austin Bliek set a personal record and B Standard in the long jump with a jump length of 7.19m. The Men's High Jump saw Bradley Richards to a new personal record and B Standard at 2.06m, followed by another B Standard from Isaac Bowden in the Men's Pole Vault with a successful vault of 4.80m. The Women's Pole Vault saw another B Standard set by Cecily Fager at 3.57m.

Among the other competitions, the Golden Eagles saw Alyssa Wisener take first place in the one mile open with a time of 5:22.62., and Joe Vance set a personal record in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.10. Britain Philip set a new personal record for himself in the Men's 60m at 7.40 along with his teammate Adam Townsend at 7.64. Kendra Postema ran a 7.84 in the 60m to set a new personal record and second all-time school record. Adam Townsend for the Golden Eagles hit a new personal record in the Men's Pole Vault at 4.20m, along with Kendall Williamson who set her own personal record in the Women's High Jump at 1.53m.

Kendra Postema added her own PR to the list with a 26.23 200m which is the 9th best time in program history for the indoor race. Austin Bliek's long jump of 6.33m broke his personal record to nab 12th place out of the 25 participants. Two more personal records by the Golden Eagles in the Women's 3000m by Elise Conkel with a time of 10:42.90 and Grace Buskard with a time of 13:11.65. 

The night continued with the Men's 3000m heat where Caleb DeVries set a personal record with a time of 9:04.06. 10 more Golden Eagles raced their way to more personal records on the day in the Men's and Women's 3000m and 5000m competitions!

The Golden Eagles will continue their season in the new year at Aquinas College for the John Flamino Invite on Friday, January 16.
