Men's Volleyball opens conference play with an important week of matches

 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Volleyball returns to action this week as conference begins in a two-match week. The Golden Eagles open the week against Aquinas on Tuesday, February 11 before facing off against top conference opponent #9 Lawrence Tech on Friday, February 14. The Golden Eagles sit with a perfect 7-0 record to start the year.

Men's Volleyball had yet another busy week as they played in three nonconference matches in the Mol Arena. They opened the weekend with two quick 3-0 sweeps over Calumet and IU East to extend their sweep streak to four. They would return to action the following day against Governors State and after they dropped the first set, they played like themselves and won in four behind Ernest Broaster's 23 kills, Kyi Jagorin's 17 digs, and Patrick Voloch's 50 assists. The three wins move Men's Volleyball to 7-0 on the year.
 
Kyi Jagorin was named the WHAC Defender of the Week for the second straight week as he tallied 29 digs to lead the Golden Eagle defense. Jagorin has 70 digs on the year through the first seven games.
 
Looking at Aquinas
Aquinas comes into the matchup against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 3-4 on the year. The Saints confidence is high as they are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Trinity Christian this past Saturday. On the year, Aquinas is averaging 9.1 kills per-set, hitting just .135 on the year. They are also averaging 8.6 digs and 1.8 blocks per-set. They are led by Connor Staats and his 95 kills as the Saints are set by Julian Fira.
 
Looking at Lawrence Tech
Lawrence Tech comes into the matchup against the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 5-0. The preseason WHAC Champions are off to an impressive start as they recorded wins over the #3 and #5 teams in the nation over the weekend. The ninth rank team in the nation is averaging 11.65 kills per-set while hitting .270. They are also averaging 8.29 digs and 2.25 blocks per-set as they will give Cornerstone another tough road matchup this Friday. They are led by Nester Addah and his 54 kills while being set by Pedro Aguiar.
